Bennet's Hall, Pride Hill, Shrewsbury (image)Bennet's Hall was part of a property known in 1378 as "Bennetshalle". It is a first floor hall with a very fine fireplace with carved stone capitals. These, like the hall itself, probably date from the mid-13th Century. Later in its life it was known as "The Old Mint" because it was supposed to have been the site of Charles I's mint during his stay in the town during the English Civil War. The remains of the hall are now incorporated into a modern shop. (Image courtesy of Shrewsbury Museums Service and www.darwincountry.org)) |
