Welcome to the Shropshire Regimental Museum homepage.
The Regimental Museum was established in 1985 and is housed in the mediaeval border fortress of Shrewsbury Castle.
Its displays tell the story of the County's military units from 1755 to c.1970.

VISITOR INFORMATION
The Castle is very close to both Shrewsbury Bus Station and Shrewsbury Railway Station.
Opening Hours :
The Castle has variable opening hours; visitors coming from a long distance are advised to 'phone for up-to-date information.
Generally, the Museum is open seven days per week from Easter to mid September, 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (4.00 p.m. on Sundays).
From mid-Sept. to December 20th, it is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
We have a long Winter closure : generally around 20th December to around mid February.
Admission costs :
To all students, all children, former members of the Shropshire Regiments and all SABC borough residents, admission is FREE.
Non-Borough adults : £2-50; concessions £1-30.
Disabled Access :
Disabled access is available to both main floors of the Museum.
Parking may be available for disabled visitors by prior arrangement. Please 'phone to enquire.
Gift Shop :
The Museum shop within the Castle sells a wide range of regimental books, ties, chinaware, military music CDs, souvenir items and other gifts.

Catering :
There are no cafe or restaurant facilities at the Museum, but packed lunches etc. may be eaten in the Castle grounds.
There are many good cafes and restaurants in the town centre within a short distance of the Castle.
Car Parking :
There is no car parking in the Museum grounds.
The large town centre car parks are within easy walking distance of the Castle.
Research facilities :
The Museum has a Research desk, with regimental histories etc. freely available for use.
Printed histories, Journals and other documents are also available to researchers by prior arrangement.
The Museum's formal archives and photo collections are very limited but may be searched by arrangement.
Many of its formal archives (e.g. War Diaries) are now housed in the nearby Record Office (the Shropshire Records and Research Centre) on Castle Gates.
Guided tours and group visits :
We welcome visits from groups of all sizes and of all interests.
Guided tours can be arranged on request (though a fee is charged) and out-of-hours visits can sometimes be arranged.
Please contact the Museum Assistant for further information if interested.
School visits and talks :
The Museum collections contain many artefacts, photos, documents and other items which relate to various elements of the curriculum.
We are happy to provide worksheets, information sheets and illustrated material by arrangement.
Talks on various subjects (military and imperial history) are available : please enquire.
