Wecome to Shropshire's geology collections homepage. There are several museums with geological displays throughout the county. These include Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Much Wenlock and many of these have collections behind the scenes.
An Introduction
Shropshire is lucky to have some of the most varied geology in the whole of Britain and the Museum Service holds over 40,000 specimens of Shropshire's geology. From this page you can access information on these collections and eventually see maps of Shropshire's geology.
Shropshire's Geology Map
This map of Shropshire shows where rocks from different geological periods occur. In future, by clicking on particular areas of the map you can find out information about that period and what objects the museum service has from that place.
SCC Museum Collections
The geology collections held at Ludlow Museum Resource Centre encompass a wide range of material from the Shropshire area and material collected by people with links to the County.
Palaeozoic fossils from South Shropshire and the Welsh Borders make up the bulk of the collection but there are also representative specimens from further a field as well as minerals and Shropshire rocks.
Important parts of the collection include early fossil fish, cephalopods and the Shropshire Mammoths.
