Newport History Society
We meet on the 3rd Monday of every month at 7.30pm at the Baptist Church Hall, Water Lane, Newport - except mid summer.
We have monthly talks about history and archaeology in this area.
We visit other local groups and sites of interest in the summer months
We have our own Archives and these are available for members to use. They are located in a central position on the High Street.
Research
We do research, and hope that if you are interested in a particular subject, we shall be able to help you with it. We have copies of most of the local trade directories, many historic maps and censuses in our archives
We publish
We publish books and leaflets. Many of our books are on sale at Card n' Play on Newport High Street.
Fieldwalking
We do field walking and metaldetecting. This activity is usually on Sunday mornings chiefly in the autumn and wintertime, although in the summer we sometimes do metal detecting and fieldwalking on a weekday evening.
