Today this aspect of Shrewsbury School, now the Library, would look different from the 18th Century one depicted here. The large gables on the right hand block were replaced in 1815 by a parapet similar to that on the main block to the left. In 1825 Castle Gates was lowered and it is now no longer possible to walk through a gateway from School Gardens onto Castle Gates.
