St. Mary's Church, Shrewsbury (image)
The discovery of the Saxon foundations of St. Mary's during the installation of a heating system in 19th Century showed that it was a large church even then. The church was added to successively during later centuries. The earlier work is characterized by the use of red sandstone and the later work by grey sandstone.
