This is a portrait of Thomas Jones dating from 1615. Jones was probably the wealthiest man in Shrewsbury at the time and was known as "the rich Jones". He was bailiff several times and the town's first mayor in 1638. He lived at the bottom of Wyle Cop in a house previously owned by the Weale family.
