Herons are sociable birds and nest in colonies which are usually found at the tops of tall trees near water. The nests are large and messy and are made of twigs and sticks. They normally only lay one clutch of eggs a year which can contain up to five eggs. The ground colour is a uniform green/blue with no markings.
This egg is inscribed with the collectors number 215 and from collectors notes accompanying the egg we know that it was given to John Ashford on 28th April 1869 by T. Bull and was taken from a nest near Brigg.
