This is a speculative reconstruction of the extent of woodland in SE Shropshire c1100. Green areas show woodland present on the 1st series OS 1 inch OS map (c1820) or fields on tithe maps with names indicating cleared woodland. Green symbols are place names such as "green", "-ley", "heath" or "bind", indicating woodland or heath. Brown symbols are names ending in ton or bury, indicating settlements not named after woodland. The map shows woodland becoming more concerntrated to the east, towards the forests of Wyre, Morfe and Kinver
