Thomas Hurd (1796-1873) shown in the centre of his yard. He was a master bricklayer. His yard was in the Sandhole area (Water Lane/Stafford Road - now Sandycroft), where he rented accommodation from his relative, Jane Cornmell. His son William (1832-1902) is holding the horse. We believe this picture to have been taken in the Sandhole area, but we are not definite about this. More work is being undertaken to establish the exact date and place.
Image probably c. 1860s.
