Tour of Britain Cycle Race, Newport
Cyclists at Lower Bar and the canal bridge. The riders are on stage six from Wolverhampton to Morecambe - 127 miles. The winner of this leg was Ian Steel (Viking) in 5h 7 mins 40 secs. Ian Steel went on to win the Tour. Cash prizes were £7-£10 for a stage win! Note the houses that have now been demolished on the corner of Water Lane and where the Shell garage is now.
