Mardol Gate Shrewsbury
The massive size of the Mardol Gate shows the danger there was in mediaeval times from nearby Wales. The inside face of the gate was decorated in the fashionable classical style in 1575-6.
Welsh Gate Shrewsbury
The Welsh Gate with its strong tower stood at the Frankwell end of St. George's Bridge. It was here in 1485 that the army of Henry Tudor entered the town. Henry later won the Battle of Bosworth and was crowned Henry VII.
