Summary
The Guildhall/Booth Hall was the centre of government in medieval and Tudor Shrewsbury. A stone tower (the Exchequer) housed records and the treasury. The Council chamber next to the tower was “beautified” in 1578. At right angles stood the Booth Hall blocking off the Square from the High Street; it contained shops at street level and a meeting hall above.
