Go to other Related Subject areasHow to search the HER/SMR on DSH
On this page you will find out how to search for an HER/SMR database record.
Using this website to find particular HER/SMR records
To run a basic search simply type a search term (keyword) in the window at the top of the website. To find a phrase, enclose it in inverted commas. It will then retrieve all records containing that term, and display them as a list.
Alternatively, if you know the SMR System number for a particular record, (prefixed MSA for monument records, FSA for Finds records and ESA for Events records) you can enter that prefixed by "CCS:", for example, CCS:MSA225. If you know the Monument Record's PRN number, a simple five figure number, you can enter that.
List of matching records
Just like Google the search engine will return relevant content on the website. These will include both webpages and database records.
A database record can be distingushed by the icon at the side. Simply click on the blue link and the record will open up.
The DSH Advanced Search
At present (early 2009) the Advanced Search still does not do anything very useful in terms of refining your search, apart from allowing you to limit it to just one of the core datasets.
The DSH partners are currently collaborating on improving the structure of the imported database records, and we hope that will then help us to properly target the Advanced Search so that you can refine your search by different criteria such as type, period or date and place.
