Exchange Vaults, Butter Cross, Ludlow.
The photograph is dated 19th July 1962.
At the time the house was owned by Mitchells & Butlers, Cape Hill Brewery, Smethwick.
There is a note on the back of the photograph recording that M&B sold the house and it became the Gaiety. The property was sold again, in September 1982, when it became the Church Tavern. It was recorded that it was then a Free House (i.e. not tied to a Brewery), and that M&B was not supplying it.
Personal note: The 1930’s Directors of Butlers & M&B (no connection at this time) were at a social function and the problem of Butlers only having one house in Ludlow was discussed, and the difficulty of sending a dray that distance. The outcome was that the house was swapped for a pub called the Australian, in Wolverhampton.
