Powerful men like me make enemies but I’d rather have enemies here on earth than make an enemy of my God. Some dislike my simple protestant beliefs. Why, one Sunday three years ago Peter Studly, curate of St. Chad’s, brought a complaint against me saying I was not observing the Sabbath as I should. What, I ask you, could please God better than the psalms we were singing, the sermon we heard (I admit that Julines Hering is a fiery preacher who can become a little loud), and the prayers we were offering – all in my own house amongst family and friends? “Unless the Lord builds the house, we labour in vain” says the Lord and so say I.
God be with you and may you always sup Rowley’s beer…
