Back home in the comfort of my own house. My father did well, and our house on the High Street was comfortable enough, but my new house here Under the Wyle is fine indeed. I bought it from the Weale family. It was they who built the beautiful bay window at the back. I have much changed and enlarged their house. The timbers on the front are most wonderfully ornate and much the equal of the house of my neighbour Master Sherer’s house. Forgive O Lord my Pride! Wealth has not gone to my head. Not for me a fine garden like that of the Langleys on Abbey Foregate. Instead I have kept, and rent out, the dye-house which brings me wealth and gives work to men and so is for the common good of all.
