Hear those bells ringing! It does the soul good to hear St. Julian’s bells welcoming in a new day. A day I can do the Lord’s work, making sure our young lads have a good education – Latin, Greek and Divinity especially – that will set them up for life!
It will be a long day; the boys are at their desks by six in the morning or if not they’ll feel their master’s anger – oh yes “Spare the rod and you spoil the child” as we masters are fond of saying. By five o’clock they’ll be finished, some to go home to their parents, some to their lodgings in town if their families are far away, as most of them are.
