Here are some of the projects which have had valuable assistance from the Friends of Shropshire Archives
Reader-Printers
The friends of Shropshire Archives have raised funds to provide two reader-printers to Shropshire Archives for use by members and the public.
The Lilleshall Collection Project.
Shropshire Archives was awarded a grant of £349,500 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to secure the future of the Lilleshall archive collection, one of Shropshire's most significant medieval archive collections. It is an essential source for the local history of much of the county, and a very valuable resource for the study of life in the middle ages, including religious houses and especially Lilleshall Abbey.
A condition of the grant was that we raise matching funding, the target being £40,000. The fund raising carried out by the Friends of Shropshire Archives has made a valuable contribution to this target. The project started in September 2005 and was completed in December 2007.
The David Parkes Sketchbook
In 2008 the Friends are working to raise £1,125 towards the purchase of this early nineteenth century sketchbook. David Parkes (1763-1833) was a prolific artist who travelled around Shropshire drawing many buildings and antiquities, a number of which are no longer in existance. This volume will be a unique and invaluable resource for local historians.
