Shropshire has never been a county noted for its fruit growing or cider production. In the Teme valley, between Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow, fruit, including cherries and damsons but mainly cider apples, was grown. This was really part of the Worcestershire and Herefordshire fruit growing region.
Most farms would however have had an orchard for home consumption. Cider was a popular drink to quench the thirst of farm workers especially at harvest time.
