Shropshire is not really known for its cereal crops, but rather for livestock rearing and dairying. However there are areas in the south east suitable for wheat, some of the upland areas for oats, and some of the dairying areas for barley. Great improvements were made to harvesting and threshing during the 19th Century as mechanical means were increasingly used.
