The base to the left may have been for a stone crushing machine. To the right was an air compressor (with fly wheel pit) either for the limestone/dolomite burning cupola next to the large draw kilns (as seen in the 1915 post card) or, according to Cecil Cornfield, to provide piped compressed air for drilling in the quarries.
