Seen from the quarry end. At some point – possibly the 1870’s when Savin & Co took over the leases on both quarry workings – it was decided to quarry down rather than go further back on the Welsh side. This may have been because of the quality of the stone or in order to rationalise the transport aspects.. From this time the Welsh incline fell into disuse
