This was the first incline – constructed in 1806 to serve the Llanymynech quarries. Originally it had a double track and lead straight down to canal wharf but latterly it joined the English incline to the north of the road and tramlines took stone down through the lime works and/or to the canal wharf. Towards the end of its usage it was reduced to a single track with a passing loop. There are plenty of archaeological remains on the incline of stone sleepers and grooved stones where the cables have rubbed.
