Constructed between 1899 and 1901 using a patented design which modified the original brick firing function. Limestone was loaded in through the side openings and coal was fed through holes in the top. The structure was covered by a dutch barn style roof. Burning limestone using the Hoffman ‘ring’ Kiln used less coal than previous methods, allowed greater control and could be done as a continuous cycle.
