These brick buildings were built in the 1760s as the “Home Farm” for the hall. It is important to keep the corn well aired as it can go mouldy, start steaming and even catch fire on its own, so ventilation slits can be seen in the walls. The doorways to the barn are high enough for a fully loaded wagon to go inside to be unloaded. They also provide a through draught to allow threshing and winnowing, when the wheat is separated from the rest of the corn.
