The impact of the Industrial Revolution on a small market town
These pages have been written especially for this web-site by local Newport historian Malcolm Miles and other members of Newport History Society. Each theme has been divided into two sections; 1750-1850 and 1850-1914. This enables an examination to be made of the changing ways in which Novaportans dealt with the problems and opportunities presented by the industrial age.
The Industrial Revolution is often portrayed as something that only affected major cities like Manchester and coal producing areas like South Wales. These resources show that even small market towns could not escape its effects.
