This is hidden from view in the image but was in the cloister. It was an octagonal roofed building where up to sixteen monks could wash at the same time. Around it, and re-used from an earlier lavabo, were carved panels showing episodes from the life of Christ. Water was piped into a circular cistern and then out through the mouths of carved heads into the trough where the monks washed.
