Introduction
Harlescott is a suburb of Shrewsbury situated on the northern side of the town. The name is derived from an old Scandinavian name and means the cottage of Heorulaf. It started to be developed in the 1920’s. Prior to this it was mainly an agricultural area with a small village situated along Harlescott Lane. In the 1850’s it had a carpenter, bootmaker and publican. (Bagshaws 1851 trade directory)
The area is continuing to develop with new industrial sites at Battlefield, sports facilities and retail areas.
