The water tower in Albert Road (situated on the eastern side of Whitchurch Road) was constructed in 1920 on the Sentinel Gardens estate. This estate of 100 houses was built to serve the employees of the Sentinel Wagon works. A communal hot water heating system was set up to serve the houses but the water tower was abandoned in the 1920’s due to operational problems.
