These houses were built in the mid -1930’s by Blackpool - based builders A&G R Fletcher on the site of the old RAF camp just to the north of the Sentinel Wagon works. Houses were priced at £495 - £695. A model of the planned estate was displayed in Shrewsbury.
The road names, i.e. Windermere, Grasmere, Coniston and Kendal, were so named because the surveyor employed on the development was a native of the Lake District.
Fletchers became established builders in the Harlescott area and built a number of estates in the Mount Pleasant and Old Heath areas.
