This Renaissance West Midlands funded initiative provides professional museum advice and training to support local museums and heritage projects within Shropshire (excluding Telford and Wrekin).
Project Objectives
The objectives of this project are to:
· Ensure small local museums within the area continue to have access to support and advice following the restructuring of the Regional Museum Council.
· Develop closer links between small local museums and the new Regional Museum Hub and the new Regional Council for Museums, Libraries and Archives.
· To improve the skills and knowledge of staff, volunteers, members and trustees within small local museums.
· To raise standards in small local museums and assist with Museum Accreditation applications and action plans.
· To improve links with small local museums and their local libraries and archives.
· To provide information channels between national and regional organisations and small local museums.
What does this mean for our organisation?
The Museums Development Project provides a range of support services including:
· Training courses on a range of museum matters
· Free enquiries service for museum staff and volunteers
· Assistance with finding funding for projects and preparing grant applications
· Visits to your museum to assess your performance and provide coaching
· Quarterly newsletter and 3 Shropshire Museums Group meetings a year
· On-line resources through the Shropshire Museums Group webgroup
· Small grants scheme for local museums and heritage groups
