This is the most detailed painting available of the impressive buildings on Mardol Head demolished for the Victorian Market Hall in the 1860s. Thomas Shotter Boys' image was painted in 1858 less than ten years before their destruction. The 17th Century central structure was six storeys high and probably represented the final phase of Shrewsbury's long timber framing tradition.
