This photo shows excavations in the unheated room, or "frigidarium", in the Roman baths complex at Wroxeter. The frigidarium was the first room of the baths and was entered from the exercise hall, or "basilica" through large double doors. The frigidarium may have been used as a changing room but its main function was as a lobby to the heated rooms beyond. The small room in the foreground of the photo was a shallow plunge pool of cold water. This originally had a white mosaic floor, the remains of which can be seen in the bottom left of the photo.
