This is an account of how a Priory School student created the DSH logo as part of her Art & Design project.
How I designed the DSH logo
Inspiration from other logos
To get some ideas for my logo I researched some logos that already exist. I looked at what made them successful and applied this to my own design. I decided that the best logos were very simple so I decided to keep mine simple too. I decided only to use two colours and simple shapes.
Inspiration from the landscapes of Shropshire
I then brainstormed all about Shropshire and looked at the different things I could use for my own logo. I looked at things like flowers, buildings and other land marks in Shropshire an included some in my logo.
I decided that the things that represented Shropshire in the best way were:
A flower - Shrewsbury is the town of flowers and there are lots of flowers all over Shropshire.
A castle - There are a number of different castles in Shropshire including Shrewsbury castle and Ludlow castle. This also represents a more historic side of Shropshire.
The Iron Bridge - This represents the more industrial part of Shropshire but there is still history behind the building of the bridge.
Tudor Buildings - These are something you see all over Shropshire especially in Shrewsbury. They are very old but still used today which could represent the relationship between the past and present.
The look & feel of the logo
The font I used needed to look neat and fairly professional in order to represent the project well but still show a more fun and creative side to interest younger people.
I mixed and matched the colours to try and find the best combination and decided on black and green. I wanted black to help the logo look professional and green because it is a relaxing colour. It also helped the creative side of the logo and together with the font made the logo more appealing to younger people.
All together I think my logo meets the specification because it's simple, memorable and creative. It would appeal to people of all ages from all over the world. It looks good large and small and would suit the purpose of the website. It's professional and fun and represents the company well.
