Welcome to the Discovering Shropshire's History Project Aims page.

We Aim to

Discovering Shropshire’s History has through the creation of a website, developed the skills and knowledge of a wide range of users, including providing support for the requirements of the National Curriculum. It has also promoted access to Shropshire and its outstanding cultural resources, and developed active use of the historic and natural environment of Shropshire.

This project has:

• Created an on-line resource to showcase the variety and significance of Shropshire’s historical and cultural landscape

• Created a variety of linked products including learning packages linked to the needs of the National Curriculum, publications, exhibitions and events, as well as opportunities for participation by volunteers and community groups.

• Provided a ‘one stop shop’ for Discovering Shropshire’s history.

• Improved people’s awareness and understanding of the significance of Shropshire’s historic past.

• Supported and encouraged local history and community groups and individuals to further their research and develop their skills.

• Provided targeted education resources for all ages, linked to National Curriculum themes.

• Encouraged Shropshire residents and visitors to get out and discover the county and its rich and varied heritage.

• Increased awareness among the educational sector of the value and the use of Shropshire’s cultural resources.

• Created a sustainable and developing resource for the future
