Although the date 1518 has been found carved on one of the beams, the building is more likely to be early 17th century, refaced in the late 18th century.
During the 20th century it was a shop: a butcher's and later an electrical shop.
It has been group listed Grade II and lies within a Conservation Area.
In 2005 it was bought by the Drayton Civic Society with assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Advantage West Midlands and converted into a museum and resource centre for the town and the surrounding area. Thus a derelict shop has been brought back to life, a listed building has been given a permanent use, and the street scene has been improved.
