The search engine will use the following fields to do the quick search.

• Title
• Keywords/Subjects
• Text/Description fields

An example search may be:-

Castles

This is likely to return 1000's of records. To refine your search you can select from the drop down next to the quick search the type of record you want.

For instance selecting all themes which will give you all webpages throughout the website. Partner records will give you all the database records.

The types of records in the drop down are:-

Search all
This will search all records across the website. You are likely to get a lot of records from this kind of search.

News item
This will display any matching news records. It will link themes and other websites. It can include:-
• A local society can record that they have been undertaking fieldwork.
• Adult Education can announce the start of a new course.
• Archives can announce an event.
• Archaeology can announce the uploading of new set of records.

Did you know?
These are a type of webpage that acts as a list format.

Image Map
These are our interactive maps; you will find these throughout the website.

Event
Our event records are listed in the news and events link at the top of our website. These are records that list any talks or open days our partners are running throughout Shropshire.

Resource
A resource can be a movie, image, sound file or document.

Gallery
A gallery is where we can put in one place resources that we wish to link together so you may find galleries can contain 100’s of images, sound files or documents that are related to one another.

Form
Forms allow you to contact us through the website. Sending a form contacts the relevant partner directly and they will receive your comments and feedback.

Homepage
A homepage is a type of webpage where our partners link all their themes together. It acts as an index to all their pages.

Partner record
A partner record is a copy of the offline databases that our partners run. You can expect to find archaeology, archives and object records from many of our partner’s offline database. All of these databases can be searched on this website all at once. In advanced search you can choose the types of databases that you would like to search.

Poll
A poll allows you to vote on the website.

Theme
A theme is webpage content they are the main type of webpage throughout the website and will link to many of the other records such as resources and homepages.

Refining Your Search

In both quick and advanced search you can also search for a phrase this can be done by typing in several words such as

shropshire castles

then on either side of the words typing speech marks

"shropshire castles"

The search engine will then look for those specific terms.
